The University of Memphis Center for Research in Educational Policy (CREP)

CREP's mission is to implement a research agenda associated with educational policies and practices in pre-K-12 public schools and to provide a knowledge base for use by educational practitioners and policymakers. The New Teacher Project

The New Teacher Project selected Memphis for its Urban Teacher Hiring Initiatve, recently published a new report: Unintended Consequences: The Case for Reforming the Staffing Rules in Urban Teachers Union Contracts. The report examines five urban districts (Eastern, Mid-Atlantic, Midwestern, Southern, and Western) to show how contractual staffing rules undermine urban schools and the educational needs of their students.
